Their façade of happiness quickly fades as they tell party goers of their lives, proving that material success doesn't always lead to true fulfillment. (And the jazz singers they’ve hired to entertain can’t help but comment.) Part of the international Bernstein at 100 celebration. Tiki food and beverages will be available for purchase

While originally set in World War II, Menotti’s opera about a woman desperate to get refugee status and get out of her home country has never been more relevant. Magda Sorel goes to the Consulate every day to try to get out of her country and every day is told to bring more paperwork. At the same time, her child is sick, her mother in law is dying, her husband is in hiding, and the Secret Police are slowly closing in her family. Staged in Converge, a collaborative office space, audience members will experience the opera as fellow refugees in the waiting room of the Consulate.
